Stephen Boss is a designer and typographer with over 25 years of experience creating distinctive typefaces, brand identities, and conceptual work.

He founded Emboss Fonts / Studio Boss in the mid-1990s, developing typefaces that blend technology with human expression. His fonts have been used by major brands and publications worldwide. He is the author of Digital Type Design and co-author of The New Web Typography.Earlier in his career in New York City, Stephen created hand-crafted collage posters for Eva Scrivo using cut-up press materials — a tactile, ransom-note approach that clients and viewers responded to strongly. This experimental spirit continues in his string theory art posters and other conceptual projects.
Selected clients and projects include Bumble and bumble, JPMorgan Chase, Treasures of New York (Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden), Fairchild Beauty Biz, Frontline (“Hand of God”), the ADHD documentary The Disruptors (featured on Good Morning America), and NJ Public TV’s Thanksgiving programming guide.Stephen’s work bridges corporate clarity, editorial creativity, film & television, and artistic exploration. He is currently based in North Adams Massachusetts and available for commissions, consulting, and collaborative projects.
